There are no words that can describe the profound love and appreciation I have for the BI Family. I enrolled my son last year and the way he has grown is amazing. Yesterday was bittersweet, he graduated and is transitioning to kindergarten. If you are a parent looking for a community where they will ensure your child grows, Behavioral Innovations is the place for you.

My three-year-old son has had a wonderful experience so far. He loves putting on his backpack and going into the facility, and he's always happy when we pick him up. Everyone there is incredibly friendly and always in a good mood. We can't wait to see his growth and start his speech therapy!

ABA Therapy Cost

What ABA Therapy Costs in Texas

Published national estimates commonly put direct therapy in the range of $120 to $150 per hour, though rates vary widely by region and by who delivers the session.

For a full breakdown of hourly rates and what drives cost: How much does ABA therapy cost?

What you actually pay

Once coverage applies, three numbers replace the list price.

Deductible. What you pay before the plan starts sharing cost. At comprehensive intensity, therapy hours exhaust it quickly.

Copay or coinsurance. A flat fee per session, or a percentage of the allowed amount. Coinsurance adds up faster than most families expect at 30 or more hours per week.

Out-of-pocket maximum. Your ceiling. Once you reach it, covered services cost nothing for the rest of the plan year.

Plan type (2026) Individual cap Family cap
ACA-compliant $10,600 $21,200
HSA-qualified high-deductible $8,500 $17,000

At comprehensive intensity, many Texas families reach their out-of-pocket maximum within the first few months of the plan year. That figure, not the hourly rate, is the real number to plan around.

Out-of-network charges may sit outside the cap entirely. Confirm network status before your first session.

Payment plans & CareCredit®

Interest-free plans up to 24 months. We are the first leading ABA provider in the country to accept CareCredit®.

Getting Started

Do Texas children need a diagnosis before starting ABA?

For ABA therapy, yes. Insurers require a DSM-5 autism spectrum disorder diagnosis from a licensed physician or psychologist before authorizing services. This is not a clinic policy. No provider in Texas can bill ABA without one.

We can do the evaluation.

Behavioral Innovations offers autism testing for children 18 months to 6 years at select Texas centers. That removes the most common delay families hit, which is finding an evaluator and then waiting months for an appointment.

If your child is older than 6, or you prefer to test elsewhere, ask your pediatrician for a referral to a developmental pediatrician, child psychologist, child psychiatrist, or pediatric neurologist. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends autism-specific screening at 18 and 24 months, so you can raise the question early rather than waiting to be asked.

One Texas Rule Worth Acting On

Under the Texas autism insurance mandate, a child must be diagnosed before their 10th birthday to qualify for mandated coverage. There is no upper age limit on treatment once that condition is met. If your child is approaching 10 and you have been putting off an evaluation, that deadline matters more than most families realize.

Autism Is More Common Than Most Parents Expect

CDC data released in 2025 identified autism in 1 in 31 eight-year-olds nationally. Texas surveillance sites reported the lowest rate in the country at 14.6 per 1,000, which reflects gaps in identification and access rather than lower prevalence. Children in Texas are being missed, not spared.

Enrollment Timeline

How fast can we start?

Most Behavioral Innovations centers in Texas have no waitlist or a short one. What families experience as "the wait" is usually a sequence rather than a queue.

01

Diagnosis

The longest step if you don't have one. We handle testing for ages 18 months to 6 years.

02

Intake

You do not need complete documentation to make first contact. Call and we will tell you what's missing.

03

Insurance Prior Authorization

Most commercial carriers respond within 1 to 3 weeks.

04

BCBA Assessment

Produces your child's individualized treatment plan and the authorized hours request.

These steps can often run in parallel. Starting benefits verification while you wait on an evaluation appointment can save weeks. Calling early costs you nothing and moves the clock.

FAQ

ABA Therapy in Texas: Your Questions Answered

Questions about ABA therapy, autism evaluations, or getting started at a Texas center? Our care team is here to help.

Call 855.782.7822
What ages do Texas centers serve?

ABA therapy is for children 18 months to 10 years. Autism testing is for children 18 months to 6 years.

Do you provide autism evaluations in Texas?

Yes, at select Texas centers, for children 18 months to 6 years. Families who test with us move directly into therapy.

Do I need a diagnosis before starting ABA?

Yes. Insurers require an autism diagnosis before authorizing services. If you don't have one, we may be able to provide the evaluation.

Is ABA therapy covered by insurance in Texas?

In most cases. Texas law requires state-regulated plans to cover autism diagnosis and treatment including ABA. Texas Medicaid and CHIP cover it under EPSDT for children under 21. Self-funded employer plans are exempt from state rules but often cover ABA voluntarily.

How much will I pay out of pocket?

Your deductible, then copay or coinsurance, capped by your plan's annual out-of-pocket maximum. On 2026 ACA-compliant plans that cap cannot exceed $10,600 individual or $21,200 family. We verify your specific plan at no cost.

What if my child was diagnosed after age 10?

The Texas mandate requires diagnosis before the 10th birthday for mandated coverage. Coverage may still be available through your plan's general terms, Medicaid, or a parity appeal. Call and we will check.

How many hours of therapy will my child need?

That comes from the BCBA assessment. Comprehensive programs generally run 30 to 40 hours weekly, focused programs 10 to 25. Your insurer authorizes hours separately from the clinical recommendation, and reduced authorizations can be appealed.

How long is the waitlist?

Most Texas centers have no waitlist or a short one. Prior authorization typically adds 1 to 3 weeks.

Do you offer in-home ABA in Texas?

No. Texas centers provide center-based therapy only.

Is Spanish-language support available?

Yes, we can offer Spanish assistance during our intake process.
